This modern take on a traditional Lichtenhainer is an evolution of our mixed fermentation golden sour ale, now brewed with beech-smoked malt, smoked salt and lemon salt, then conditioned on fresh Scottish fruit, juicy honeyberries and tart tayberries. The result is a vibrant balance of tangy, fruit-forward flavour, subtle smokiness and lactic sharpness.
Brewed in collaboration with Mikkeller to mark their 20th anniversary.

Keg at The Antelope, Godalming. Opaque amber. Thin foamy white head doesn't quite manage full coverage. Aroma is low key - light smoke, then delicately sour berries. Flavourwise it's sour but not overly so. There's a smokiness which kinda takes the edge off. Marmalade tang. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Light-medium bodied. Slick. 440ml can. Pours pinky orange with a small head. Aroma is light sour smoke with some tangy red berries. Taste has sour smoke and red berries to start. Tangy sour smoke finish.

On tap at Põhjala, pours a hazy pinkish amber with a small beige head. Aroma has plenty of phenols, jammy berries, and acetic notes. Flavour has some plasticy smokiness, acetic notes, jamminess, and phenols. All sorts of messed up notes here. Poor.

On tap at Põhjala Brewery & Tap Room, Tallinn. Pours slightly hazy rosé with a modest, white head. Sour, fruity and smokey with red berries. Medium flavour intensity and pleasant acidity. Fairly refreshing.

Draught at Põhjala Brewery & Tap Room, thanks to visionthing. Shared with him and Finn. A covering beige head over a hazy dark pinkish body, dotted spots on the glass. Smell of berry skins and smoked honey. Mid-sweet and mid-tart fruit-berry taste. Prolonged ending with a smoked bite. Something else and quite alright. (Tallinn, 07.11.2025).
