$4.40 single from Appalachian. Pint glass at home. Stamped 10 10 2025.
Purty, cascading pour. Very dark, sooty brown on black, sturdy brown froth, nice lather.
Obvious bourbon, sticky & sharp nose with a very subtle grape must buried at the end.
Taste is strong & smooth. Deep grape/blackberry jam, not sweet, barely tangy & not even tart. Heavy bourbon laced chocolate, a little burnt caramel & sooty malt on the finish. Just enough dark fruit to make it curious.
Thick, very warming, multi-layered, inviting pH, ends all on roast.
The bourbon is a bit too much but overall, this is an excellent beer.

Sample at Denver Rare Beer Tasting VIII on 10/07/2016. The beer pours black with a bit of brown around the edges and a medium beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lacing. Bourbon, malt and berry aroma. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, vanilla, blackberry and malt. The finish is bourbon and berries. Good beer all around.
