Roman Beauty Cider is a North American style Cider, crafted primarily from Roman Beauty, an heirloom apple we have grown since our beginning as Orchardist in 1929. The balance of the blend is made with Yarlington Mill, an English bitter sweet apple, and Granny Smith. The fruit is well matured on the tree to enhance the aroma and composition of the fruit for fermentation. The cider presents an aromatic body that places you in the cider house and farmyard. Acidity is noticeable, not dominant, harmonizing with the build of orchard ripe fruit. A soft lazy bubble carries the cider across the palate adding length to the flavors. The process for production of Roman Beauty Cider is reminiscent of how cider was made on the farm in 19th century North America.

Bottle from Whole Foods Bowery. Pint Glass pour. Clear, gold body. Fizzy. Vinegary, green, apple mulch scent. Lightly cheesy. Taste is a bolder version of above, though with a moderate amount of barnyard. Softly sweet, more vinegar then acid. Old wood. Mild tannins. Touch of plastic. Yeast on the finish. Texture is really meaty. Slightly thick and creamy, while still maintaining inviting carbonation. Different. I liked it.

On tap at Bushwhacker Woodlawn, pours a cloudy yellow with a small white head. Aroma brings out some nice funk and crisp dry apple skins. Flavour is quite sweet, with lots of funk and dusty apple skins. The sweet melds with the farmhouse notes really well. Very good.
