This is what happens when we get some amazing barrels (20 year old Elias Butte Bourbon Barrels!) and get to go to town on them.
We aged Modem Tones in these for 3 years before racking them out. We added 50 lbs Toasted Coconut (5 lbs / bbl), 100 lbs Macaroon Cut Coconut (20 lbs / bbl) and 10 lbs Dark Roast Coffee Beans. We were always adamant that the base blend for any of these stouts ought to be amazing in its own right, not just a blank canvas for adjuncts, and this is our swan song for that. Super rich, decadent, and bursting with coffee and coconut notes, all in an amazing oaky base beer.

On tap at Modern Times - Encinitas, pours inky black, almost no head. Aroma is decadent, with deep bourbon barrels, succulent coconuts, moderate coffee presence, and sticky dark sugars. Flavour is absurdly complex and decadent, with truckloads of coconut, balanced by dark roast coffee, quite a lot of dark sugars, all wrapped up in a divine bourbon barrel character. Sublime incorporation of the coconut and coffee; sweeter than typical MT BA beers but kept in check. Absolutely superb.

Dark brown. No head. On the nose, this has a rich, sugary depth on the nose. There's a light fruitiness, but this is all sugars. On the palate, it's thick, rich, with a ton of sugars. There's also, predictably, a metric assload of coconut, and some coffee. The bourbon seems to cut in and out; I think that's a function of my palate picking up the sugars. Very intense, refined, excellent.

22oz (thx, Ben M. D.!) @ Ryan's shared with Josh.
Aroma: mix of coconut and coffee, chocolate, some American oak.
Taste: along the same lines; really bold, thick, rich, and sweet; another amazing integration of coffee and coconut from MT.
Overall: another example that makes me crying of the fact that MT ceased it's barrel program π¬πβ€οΈ

Poured from 650mL bottle. Near black with almost no beige head and some coconut sediment. Nice coconut, feint coffee, underlying bourbon, very nice balance, enjoyable.
