500ml bottle from Waitrose - Clear copper body with a short off-white head. Good caramel character with a big boost of alcohol, sweetness from a sugary barley sugar candy, warming and fulfilling.

Copper colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, biscuity and some mild nutty tones with mild alcohol as well. Flavour is floral, fruity, some biscuity and mild caramel tones with mild nuts. OK, but feels a bit thin.

[50cl bottle, #055722, from Waitrose, Bracknell.] An attractive golden copper coloured pour with a thick cream coloured head; aroma of raisins and figs; the usual complex taste - orange marmalade, sweet figs and dates and light biscuity grains, combined with a deep leathery bitterness that lingers long into the finish which brings a very peasant warmth to the throat, as well as more dates and caramel. An annual treat.

Bottle from Waitrose, West Byfleet. Opaque amber-chestnut. Thick foamy light beige head. Aroma has entwined berries, caramel, glue and marmalade. The flavour has a bitter woody edge running throughout, which is the first thing I noticed. There are then sweet carmalised fruits and citrus. Light-medium bodied. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. Punchy interesting stuff.
