Clear, very dark. Big dark beige head, well-retained.
Smells like a wonderful mix of base malt and light dark malt. Gentle caramel and rich honey with an herbal, almost minty hop character. Earth, mineral, licorice, molasses...
Great mix of base and dark malt with low roast, low toast. Almost fudgey, with definite tootsie roll-like character and some slight syrupy chew to it. That said, it's nice and dry on the finish with mild earth, herb, mineral. I applaud the lack of toast and roast here; I get tired of overly toasty/roasty dark lagers.
