A Ridley’s beer, brewed by Greene King since late 2005. Brewed January to March by Ridleys. Reduced to a monthly January seasonal since the Greene King takeover.

Roasted crystal malt creates this rich, ruby coloured ale, giving a sweet, nutty flavour perfectly complemented by a light bitter aftertaste.

Cask on handpump at The Crown Charlton On Otmoor, Oxon. Wonderful dark amber colour with a very small head. very easy drinking and moreish with some great malty and nutty flavours dominating. Can’t remember if I had ever had this pre Greene King taking over but if as I expect this was the GK version then they’ve made a very decent beer.

(Bottle 50 cl) Almond coloured with a thick and dense head. Nutty character with some malty sweetness nicely balanced by a solid but not overwhelming bitterness. Rather delicious ESB that may just lack the last refinement to be truly great. 020402

Cask. Nutty aroma. Semi-cloudy, dark chestnut colour. Malty, spicy flavour. Finish is slightly sour, but in the good way. This was the bottom of the cask.

A red-brown beer with a fine light brown head. The aroma is very sweet with notes of berries, fruit, and nuts. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of nuts, but also lesser notes of caramel on a dry roasty background, leading to a slightly dry hoppy end.
