There is sauerkraut in my lederhosen. I repeat: There is sauerkraut in my lederhosen! Which is exactly the way it should be when drinking a Oktoberfest-style Märzen, brewed with 100% imported German ingredients. Bring the bierhaus to your haus with this award-winning, ubër popular seasonal beer that delivers a blitzkrieg of rich malt and caramel sweetness. Pairs perfectly with traditional festival favorites, like Bauernseufzer, roasted pig knuckle, and Bavarian soft pretzels that are larger than your head. Oans, zwoa, g’suffa!

Bottle at Cafe Buitenlust, Oirschot. Dark orange/copper to reddish color. Didn’t really like the smell, but the taste is good again. Soft carbo and body.

Key Food, Brooklyn ($10): Pours a brownish amber color with a small beige tan head. Aroma is of sweet malts and ain’t too bad. Somewhat sweet taste, but not too much. Mostly malts in the taste along with an aspect of dry German hops. It is a footnote, but it adds a nice little twist. Pleasantly smooth body. I like it, but it wasn’t great....

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear copper color with a thin head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted malts with a bit of caramel. The taste is caramel, faint hops and dried berry like fruits. Like a nut-free fruitcake. Thin-medium bodied.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. You’ve heard of the Hop Bomb? Well, this beer is the Malt Bomb. Pours a rich, amber-red with a medium, off-white head. Huge malt aroma with caramel, bread and some ripe fruits. Flavor is quite sweet with more caramel, as well as biscuit, plums and dark cherries. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet with lingering bread tones. I like my Oktoberfests a bit more restrained than this, but I had no problem drinking this puppy.

A dark amber oktoberfest with a thin light moka head. A grainy burned caramel malt with light signs of oxidation, nutty, overall, pleasant. In mouth, a nutty malty beer with good grainy mash tones, roasted notes, lacks a bit of malt, but overall, pretty decent.

Bottle. Amber, golden cream, well-bubbled. Fresh fruit on bready malt aroma. Chewy, but slightly lightbodied, needs a bit more oomph, heather an honey, light roast notes, ok grassy and citric hops, slightly too fast exit.
