Yearly, ending in 2017, we brewed Fluxus to celebrate the anniversary of our first beer sold—July, 1995. The name Fluxus is Latin for “continuous change” and in the spirit of change, every year we brew Fluxus with a different recipe.
This year’s Fluxus is brewed with our base malt, malted rye, and malted wheat, then hopped with noble hops before fresh ginger root is added in the whirlpool. Following fermentation, the beer is partially aged in oak gin barrels previously used for Barr Hill Tom Cat Gin. The result is a highly aromatic saison with overtones of ginger and botanicals, a hint of vanilla in the flavor, and a vibrant finish.

750 ml bottle purchased at Spruce Creek Provisions, Kittery, ME for $16.99. Aroma is Belgain yeast, ginger root, honey or sugary hints. Flavor shows a pretty strong amount of ginger root on my palate with a mild note of gin in the aftertaste. I am not a huge fan of ginger, but luckily there is enough other flavors to distract me from the root. Medium body with a bone dry texture. Well made but not something I would reach for again.

On tap at Vermont Tap house, Williston, VT.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a glossy semi-hazy orange color with a slim little white cap of a head. Moderate lacing.
The smell had some vanilla, woody dry gin botanicals, and some floral aspects.
The flavor takes all of the previously mentioned aromas to bring together nicely. Woody to semi-vanilla/floral aftertaste with a quick semi-sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sipping quality about it. Carbonation runs nice and low.
Overall, nice Allagash styled saison imparting a ton of great characteristics in this saison. I would love to have again.

Samples at the brewery / 750 ml bottle from the brewery. Murky orange with a thin, fizzy, off white head. Peppery yeast and ginger. Notes of wood and gin. Candied ginger / candied sugar sweetness underneath. Bright, crisp, and lively on the tongue. Both the ginger and gin barrel flavors are muted enough not to overwhelm but present enough to have their impact on the flavor. Really just feels excellently created.
