Some might think we’re out of our gourd for making a pumpkin ale, but our Pumpkin Down is not like the others. The caramel and toffee maltiness of our Piper Down Scottish ale is the perfect backdrop for a boatload of roasted pumpkin. Just before bottling, we add a subtle amount of spice to complement, but not overwhelm, the earthy flavor. It was a smash at the brewery, and we think you’ll agree.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a pumpkin and spice mix. Flavor is again pumpkin pie spice with a graham cracker bready after taste. A decent spice and flavor from the gourd but I was hoping more of the Scottish ale aspect would come out. A little peat smoked malt would be just what this beer needs. But it’s still an solid pumpkin spiced ale. Lots of spice to go around.

400th US rating. Pours a rich dark brown, only slightly hazy, off-white head with minimal lacing. Aroma slightly of toffee and nutmeg, flavor dark toffee, slight pumpkin. This is a pumpkin beer for people who don’t like lots of pumpkin flavor in their beer. Nice round mouthfeel. Good beer.

Pumpkin, shortbread, allspice nose. Hazy rust, medium yellow head, minimal retention. Allspice and clove, less pumpkin. Medium body, easy carbonation. Very nice pumpkin pie aroma, with an actual pumpkin presence.

Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Off-white head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Pumpkin, nutmeg and cinnamon aromas. Dry with caramel, mild nutmeg and pumpkin bread front to back. Dry, abrupt finish.

On tap at bier thirty. Pours out a dark amber topped with a small tan head. Nose is nice pumpkin pie spice some nice sweet pie notes. Taste is more of the pumpkin notes not nearly as much as on the nose. More roast malts and light spice.

12oz bottle. Pretty solid offering, well crafted, fresh, clean. Deep amber burgundy body, looks filtered. Slightly oily off-white head. On the fuller side of medium bodied, very drinkable for the style. Solid offering.

12 oz. bottle shared by Willrunforbeer. Thanks?? Amber/ brown aroma with the standard fall spices of cinnamon, nutmeg and toasted grain.
Very mild amount of gourd with the toffee backbone. It’s not overly spiced which is a really good thing. Not nearly as bad as most of the pumpkin beer on the market. The body is ok. Yeah, it is what it is.
