Like the name suggests, this toasty red ale is best by a body of water. After all, it’s brewed less than a mile away from the banks of the Mississippi. Not that we’re partial. This 2011 GABF Silver Medal winner was originally brewed for our hometown triple-A ball club, the Memphis Redbirds.

Bottle at the Arcade Restaurant, Memphis. Malty caramel aroma with notes of red fruits. Bit sweet with toffee, pretty drinkable Irish Red. Medium body. At the legendary Arcade diner.

Tap at GABF. Pours a clear copper with small off white head. The aroma is bread, dark fruit, caramel. Medium body, caramel, toasted grain, light finish, decent.

Sample at Hattiesburg fest. Clear amber color, off white head. Aroma of lightly burnt caramel. Taste has toasted caramel. Decent.

Bottle at the hotel in Natchez, MS - picked up at the Walgreens in West Memphis. Pours clear reddish gold with a fizzy, off-white head. Earthy and leafy hops in the nose, some toasted grains. Light sweet flavour with grainy malts, more earthy and leafy notes, some orange peel, leathery berries. Light to medium bodied with average, fizzy carbonation. OK balance in the finish, with further grains, lightly toasted bread, some toffee. Decent stuff overall.

Good solid red ale, slightly lacking in flavour but seemed to improve as it warmed up from sub-zero!

At GABF on Thursday October 11, 2012Clear golden color, off-white head. Sweet, malty scent. Sweet, apple taste. Medium thin mouthfeel, medium low bitterness.
