Inspired by the fields of Provence in southern France, Bière de Provence begins with 2-row wheat and rye malts, and Jarrylo hops. A bounty of herbs, including lavender, bay leaf, marjoram and chervil, gives it a floral and spicy nose. With a hazy golden appearance, Bière de Provence is fermented using a Belgian yeast strain lending to a sweet and malty flavor profile. This summer saison has a smooth finish with a flavor that’s just as complex as it is crisp and refreshing.

“We are proud to release this culinary ingredient-infused beer on the 500th anniversary of the Reinheitsgebot,” says Dogfish Head founder and president Sam Calagione. “We have always believed this law is nothing more than a relatively modern form of art censorship.”

Bottle. Slightly cloudy gold color with a two finger head. Taste is just an average saison but it had a really nice aroma. Refreshing.

Its a very cloudy copper and foam that dissapeared very quickly. I smell all the odd herbals and not sure how I feel about it. The most pungent taste I get (besides beer) is the bay leaf. This is especially in the finish. The bitterness comes through especially, but it mellows out quick.

bottle, rating is a few months old - Hazy gold pour. It has a spicy, yeasty, citrusy aroma. The flavor is well balanced with herbal notes, malt, spicy yeast, and citrus.

Nice unique bay leaf and clove flavors, go well with the yeast from the saison.

bottle. I freaking loved this beer. Generally not a style I gravitate towards, but this was just terrific in every way.

Bottle from West Side. Huge lavender nose with cardamom, nutmeg and ginger notes. Super floral. Lavender, ginger and nutmeg on the palate. Light but the floral and herbal elements are so overpowering. Finish is boozy and ginger heat. Over the top really.

12 ounce bottle from Beer Run, 6/17/16. Clear copper, thin fizzy white head. Good retention. Aroma of bubblegum, yeast, marjoram, lavender. The taste is sage, bubblegum, mustard, thyme, dill, bready malt. Medium bodied, complex and tasty.

Bottle from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours gold with a slight white head. Aroma is bay leaf with some hints of other things. Think I get marjoram. Med body or so. Flavor is spice/herb. Bay and marjoram dominate. It’s pretty dry. Earthy could apply. Missing the lavender. It is strongly flavored. Nearly astringent. I am getting to like it.

Lavender, funk, dried leaves. Shimmering copper, thick head. Dried leaves, overripe orange, funk, lemon zest. Lavender finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation. I like herbal saisons but not lavender
