An Irish-style red ale with the strength of an English strong ale. Full-bodied, malty and alcoholic. Not too hoppy in order to emphasize the complex malt flavor and fruity aroma. The ruby red color hints at its rich caramel maltiness.

On tap at Willowbrook. Has a amber color with a small white head that diminshes to nothing quickly. The aroma is malt and slighty fruity. Decent lacing on the glass. The taste is rather malty with light fruit hops and a sweet finish. Hides the alcohol well and easy to drink. A very good Irish Ale from BJ’s.

Yellowish head, small & fast gone over beautiful accajou beer. Alcohol, rum or raisins on rum, diacetyl. Sweet, slightly roasted almonds, alcohol, again point of butterscotch, honey - also roasted, if that makes sense - and a very dry finish. Very slick, obvious alcoholwarming, long sweet-warm flowing aftertaste. Quite tasty but the alcohol dominates too much, giving even more sweetness to an already sweet beer, containing traceable diacetyl. Many thanks to Dirk for sharing!

On tap at Westwood, CA location. Good lacing and retention on the white head. Amber body. Malty aroma and an extremely suprisingly malty taste that goes nearly to the point of being chocolatey. Watery mouthfeel, goes down quite well. . .the whole pitcher of it.

On tap at the pinellas location. Initial fruit like aroma. Appearance is a reddish tinge to an otherwise common pale yellow american beer. Little carbonation in this brew. Initially it comes across rather fruity but it immediately morphs into a pale ale medium bitter experience. A little too much personality for my lager loving taste buds. However, not really over the top. Hides the otherwise +7% well.

Sample at the Columbus location. This brew is a reddish-brown color with a medium beige head that lasts pretty well. Patchy lacing. Sweet malt and nuts in the nose. Medium-bodied with a sweet malt character throughout, along with light roasted nut and hops flavors. The finish is hoppy and nutty. Overall this is not too bad.

Aroma of malt and light stone fruit. Reddish amber color with no particular head. Nice medium malty start; not a great deal of hop. Not my style, I guess.

Hazy amber color; small creamy head. Some caramel aroma and flavor, no sweetness, but reasonable body; correct bitterness. Quite strong and balanced final, where the caramel malt shows up a bit. Unexciting but correct brew.

Red-amber color. Aroma of caramel. Flavor of malt, caramel, candi sugar, light malt fruitness (red fruits). No thrills but not bad.

On Tap at BJ’s La Mesa. Copper color with off white head that lasts and good lacing too. Aroma is too light with a hint of roasted malts. The flavor is pretty full with caramel malts and some hop bitterness to balance. There is also a slight nuttiness that adds interest.

Cask @ brewpub San Jose. Clear dark amber body with a moderate orange head. Aroma of sweet, slightly roasted malt. Some caramel as well. A harmonic well balanced flavor of sweet malt and caramel. Moderate hoppy. Medium aftertaste.
