Pitch black color. Dark brown head. Very nice roasted malt and tons of dark fruits and charcoal in the nose, with subdued oak but bourbon is not very present. Big mouth but only medium full body. Alcohol uber well hidden and bourbon is very sutble. The finish is a bit more boozy with light bourbon finish. For 10% it drinks amazing but lacks a bit of depth.

375mL bottle pours with a nice deep dark body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma bursts with chocolate, dark roasted malts, some dark roasted coffee notes and then a bit barrel shows up with marshmallow, spicy oak and then faint bourbon. Nice. Very inviting aroma where the barrel character is a pleasing addition rather than a beer crushing force. The taste delivers yummy chocolate blended with some sweet molasses, dark roasted malts, a sliver of earthy coffee and then subtle and supportive spicy oak, smooth soft bourbon goodness and marshmallow. Like the nose this achieves a tasty balance. The bourbon sensation grows to a modest level into the finish. Lovely.

Pours dark mahogany into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to hug rim leaving spot lacing. Hot cocoa, bourbon and marshmallow aromas. Thick with hot dark chocolate upfront turning to hot vanilla and oak.

Capped 375 from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours black with a very dark tan head. Aroma is chocolate, mild bourbon and coffee/dark malt. Quite smooth. Full bodied. Flavor is chocolate, not all that mild bourbon, some wood, some earth, and hints of coffee, not to mention really smooth burnt/toasted malt. Heat seems to be just another flavor aspect. Finishes not very sweet, earthy, and bitter chocolate. The is arguably somewhat complex. Excellent brew.

Bottle from Nolen - thanks! Pours opaque black, medium dark brown head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, bourbon. Light sweet, light bitter, just a touch of acidity. Body is lightish with lots of carbonation.

Bottle poured into a Belgian snifter. Pours black with some dark brown hues, little tan head. Got a bit of weird jelly-like sludge on top of the glass from the first half, yeast Iβm guessing. Big whiskey and bourbon on the nose, coconut, vanilla, oak. Tasting notes of bourbon, whiskey, oak, dark chocolate, roast, coffee. Medium-full body with a dry finish. Bourbon and whiskey pretty much dominate in this, might enjoy this more with a bit more balance on the taste.
