Leinenkugel’s BeerGarten Tart starts out with a snap of tartness balanced by a subtle sweetness from pale malts. It’s our take on a Berliner Weisse, a classic German biergarten summer favorite. Brewed with American wheat, BeerGarten Tart’s light body and refreshing finish are perfect for warm summer days.

Bottle. Pale golden color with a smallish white head. Nose is wheat, tropical fruit, hints of tart. Nice flavor of sour/tart and faint fruity sweetness. Very easy drinker.

Bottle. Lactic lemon, wheat malt, and straw aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Mildly sweet lemon, wheat malt, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Good body. Really a pleasant Berliner Weisse.

Pour is a clear almost colorless yellow with a fizzy white head. Aroma is some wheat malt and a bit of lactic tartness. Flavor is a clean malt with a little tart aftertaste. While this is very thin it was going in the right direction for a Berliner weisse, it was just way to watery. If this was not in a twist off and said Leinenkugel’s on the front it would be getting better ratings on here.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is grainy, lemon, lacto, minerally, generic beer. Pours clear golden with a collapsing white head. Taste is medium-level tart with a cheap beer feel to it. Not bad, but seems cheaply made.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 6/20/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear pale straw color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lightly tart lemon, lime, pear, green apple, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of fruity/acidic yeast and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste lightly tart lemon, lime, pear, green apple, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, herbal, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/acidic tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, lime, pear, apple, and hay, straw, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice robustness and balance of fruity/acidic yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from carbonation and acidity as well. Medium-high carbonation and light body; with a very smooth, crisp, fairly acidic, and slightly grainy mouthfeel that is nice. Zero alcohol warmth as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a nice Berliner weisse style. All around good robustness and balance of fruity/acidic yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Meh. It’s hardly a Berliner weisse, but I’m not rating to style, I mention only at the annoyance of thinking I might be getting one kind of beer but getting another. Anyways, pale gold, bright and clear, short living fizzy head. Nose hints at a tart wheatiness, green apple like, flavor semi-dry graininess, mild tartness, almost too much hop bitterness at the finish. Fairly light bodied. Drinkable enough.

Bottle: Pours clear, pale gold with a sizeable white head. Grain malt, lemon aroma. Taste is mildly tart, lemon, yeast, grain malt. Very light....nicely carbonated and refreshing. Summery.....Shandy-ish......not a Berliner, truly....but fairly pleasant and bright, tart beer.
