An imperial porter brewed with Sichuan pepper.

The aroma of this dark beer blends together forest, herbs and chocolate. Showing notes of lavender, lemon, pine resin and spruce tips with a backdrop of dark cocoa. The palate is full-bodied, creamy, and richly layered. Sweet malt-driven chocolate and deep coffee combine with the pepper’s vibrant lemon and grapefruit oils along with a refreshing hint of spruce tips. The finish is pleasantly roasty with a subtle, peppery tingle.

330 ml can. Pours black with moderate foamy tan head. Aromas of lavender, heather, chocolate, vanilla, and slick roasted malts. Flavors of florals, chocolate liqueur, vanilla, and oily roasted malts. Indeed a peppery tingle at the end, but really like a gruit based stout. Interesting in a perfumey way.

Keg at Liquid Dreams 26. Aroma has espresso and dark chocolate. Glossy darkness. Tan head retreats to the rim. Flavourwise it has boozy chocolates and espresso woth liqour. Medium bodied. Oily. Soft-average carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish.

On tap a Pühaste Taproom Tallinn, pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma certainly brings out the Sichuan peppercorns, along with medium roast and some dark cocoa in back. Flavour is much the same, marrying the peppercorns well with the roast and dark sugars. I almost get that numbing sensation on my palate. Not exactly what I what in a big dark beer, but, for what it is, it’s executed very well. Points for uniqueness and executing something well that could easily go wrong.

200ml draught at Pühaste Taproom Tallinn. Shared with Finn. Covering fawn-coloured head, black as pitch in the glass, scattered lacing. Nicely roasted chocolate malts on the nose, attractive. Intense taste of cocoa-chocolate, lightly spiced, and supported by ripe fruits. Long-lived roasted mid-sweet malty finish, with warmth from the alcohol. Full bodied. Likeable slow sipper. (Tallinn, 05.11.2025).
