Time flies as they say, and we have reached the twentieth edition of our boundary pushing Abstrakt series of beers. It is going to be one for the ages too, as we are going to the metaphorical town on AB20. We have brewed a coffee milk English barley wine, and have blended this with an equally stunning barrel-aged imperial stout. So think liquid tiramisu, backed by a rich and decadent layer of warming alcohol. And much more besides.

Bottle at home, Brewdoge Rake #200, 02/06/16. Mahogany to chestnut brown with a decent beige cap. Nose is coffee grinds, caramel melt, vanilla fudge, sweet malts, light peppery spice, cheesecake base. Taste comprises sweet malts, coffee, tiramisu is well presented, light spice, chocolate sprinkle, toffee fudge, vanilla essence, subtle barrel. Medium + body, fine carbonation, sweet licks in a lightly booze ridden closure. Solid strong ...sweet at times but with a light spice to balance, pulls off the tiramisu theme well and a great coffee level to this number. Drinks way below the ABV despite a warming boost in the close.

Draught@Mikkeller & Friends, Copenhagen. Hazy brown colour, small off-white head. Aroma is nettle, chocolate, some coffee and alcohol. Flavour is coffee, raisins, twigs, some alcohol, toffee and mild vanilla. As it warms up the coffee really grows in it.

On tap at BrewDog Shepherds Bush. . Deep ruby colour unclear lasting beige head. Well apart from the heat on the aroma. There is chocolate and candied citrus fruit. Tiramasu? Some chocolate and cream. Milk chocolate and booze. It’s big boozy. Just too much heat which is a shame as the milk chocolate flavour is exquisite. Too much.
