The origins of Oatmeal Stout go back hundreds of years when oats were added to Stouts to promote a healthier image than other beers available during that time period. The unique blend of the oats and malts in Alaskan Stout produce a balanced, smooth beer with hints of coffee and caramel.

12 oz bottle into English pint. Pours coal black with some faint reddish-brown tints at the bottom of the glass when held up to the light. Not much head here. Leaves some creamy lacework. Has an awesome English aroma, a la Samuel Smith’s Oatmeal Stout; smells of cinnamon raisin bread, baked apples, toasted marshmallows. Taste starts out sweet and then turns sour. Carbonation is soft, mouthfeel is creamy, body is medium. A very nice stout.

On tap at The Taphouse, pours black with small head. Aroma of sweet malt, oat and some cocoa. Body is smooth and creamy, with flavours of oat, and hardly sweet - a lot less than the aroma suggests. Solid one.

Bottled, from Spokane, WA. Black, beige head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel. Mid sweet with medium body and soft mouthfeel. Mildly flavourful with chocolate and coffee being prominent. Fairly low bitternes. A high quality every day stout.

Pours nearly black, with a thin tan lace - aroma of oats, chocolate, roast, vanilla - creamy mouthfeel - mild acidity and black malt bitterness - a touch of tartness - cream sweetness comes through after that, but doesn’t stick around long, as coffee bitterness, roast, and an ashy quality arrive shortly after that - lingering dry roasty character in the finish - fairly one-dimensional, but nice enough.

Dark roasted oats, chocolate, and raisin aroma, not strong. Black with a medium tan head. Flavor is molasses, raisins, and charcoal. Smoky grass finish with licorice notes when warm.. Good balance, thinnish mouthfeel.

12oz bottle. Black color with minimal head. Delicate sweet chocolate aroma. Creamy and rich flavors, not strictly relying on chocolate malt overkill, lots of caramel and a little coffee. Smooth with mellow carbonation. A little sweet in the finish, not much hop balance. Excellent Sweet Stout.

12oz Bottle pours out a almost black topped with a very small tan head. Aroma of chocolate and a light roast. Tast more of the light sweetness and some of the roast. A little bitter on the end but not much. A pretty good brew.
