[2/26/15] Draught at Breakside Brewery in Portland. Black with a small tan head. Roasty aroma with some coffee and a chocolate note. Roasty flavor with coffee, rather dry, with a light acidic hint, a chocolate hint and a bitterish finish. Decent.

Nice brew. On tap at the brewery. Pours a pure black color, maybe some brown hints, a medium tan head. A smooth coffee nose, some caramel and toast. Similar flavors, fairly dry roast, some bitter roasted coffee, ash, caramel. Mostly heavy toasted malts. Quite good, light.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark mahogany color with compact head. Roasted malt aroma and flavor, dry mouthfeel as promised, with a strong character of pot coffee; correct bitterness.
Not bad, just not my style, and quite monodimensional.

On tap at Breakside Brewing, pours mostly black with a dark amber tinge and a small tan head. Aroma of dry cocoa powder, burnt malts and some charcoal. Flavour of medium roasty dry bitterness and dry cocoa powder. Finishes wit a dry, bitter cocoa finish. Light-bodied and easy-drinking, but not too memorable. Decent.

Draught. Pours black with thick beige head. Aroma is roast, with an unpleasant soapiness. Wonderful flavour, malt, chocolate, roast bread. Good finish, but not much of it. Light bodied.
