Ballast Point’s Brewing and Spirits Navigator Doppelbock is inspired by the strong German dark lagers and bock’s. Briess Extra Special malt helps create the source of the flavors that dominate the aroma and taste buds in Navigator. You are able to enjoy forward flavors of caramelized malt sugars and dried fruits, such as raisins, apricots and prunes. This strong lager is a big malt-driven beer that truly deserves the nickname “liquid bread.”

tap - Pours dark amber and smells of caramel malt and alcohol. The flavor is sweet and boozy with caramel and a touch of dark fruit. It’s a decent beer though I thought it could use something more.

GABF 2013. Pours a deep brown appearance with a tan head. Caramel, lightly roasted malty, chocolate, a bit dark fruity aroma. Light plum, toffee, dark fruity, light grape, caramel flavor that finishes a touch dry. Pretty smooth for the abv and not a bad overall beer but nothing too special.

Pours whiskey brown with no head or lacing. Mild aroma of coffee and nut. Light carbonation, almost too light. Oily texture. Finishes bitter sweet with decent balance. Tap at Coles.

Draft @ The Mint, Bethlehem, PA. Deep brown with consistent head. Big dark fruit nose with chocolate and molasses. Flavors are much the same with a medium body that leaves a sticky texture. This is a keg that was aged one year. The more malty side comes out, rich flavors. Damn nice to try.
