Dark black with ruby red highlights, this Robust Porter is rich and complex. A blend of UK malts, chocolate rye and Belgian candi sugar provide a sweet chocolate, yet rich earthy quality. Malt forward with an aroma full of roasted malts, toffee and dark fruit, this National Homebrew Competition medal-winner is a great dessert beer or to pair with hearty foods. Happy brewing!

Some coffee in a very light aroma. Taste is quite plain with a lot of roasted malt bitterness and some coffee. Was waiting for more from Ballast Point :-/

Tasting at Matt’s
Black color, tan head. Smells like cheese, footy. The mouthfeel is drier than expected, strong roasty notes, a bit burnt even, and lingering sourness.
Nothing exciting, also probably fermented too dry.

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark brown / near-black with a small beige head. Aroma is rather restrained, with toasted malt and a touch of dark fruit. Flavour is similarly restrained for the style, with notes of red fruits and bready notes. Lacking body, especially for an imperial porter. It's okay, but really underwhelming. Meh.

Bomber from Malt & Vine. Pours dark brn/blk with a tan head. Aroma of dark fruit and treacle/toffee. Med body or so. Flavor is sweet chocolate toffee/treacle with some earthiness. Not getting coffee. It’s not dry, but dry enough. Something like actual sugar seems present, not just malt. Chocolate helps with that.

Wicked Deja Vu pouring my glass. Solid black with a frothy off white head that persists. Roasty earthy chocolate with bits of caramel and dark fruits. Nice beer

22 oz bottle from Hoboken Vine, 1/9/16. Dark brown in color with a lighter brown head. Heavy lace streaks are left on the glass. The aroma is sweet cocktails up from with roast and burnt notes underneath. Tastes similar. Starts sweet and quickly turns dry and bitter. Medium-plus body, smooth, with a long, dry finish. Really nice, drier Porter.

Cocoa, charred oak, peanut hulls aroma. Cola brown, medium tan head, good lace. Charcoal, burned toast, subtle raisin hints. Vanilla finish. Medium body, soft carbonation, nice malt bitterness. Great balance and texture.

Bottle - Rich dark chocolate, malty sweetness and a touch of toffee. Deep brown with a rich light brown head. Lots of nice roast, good richness in body and some dark fruit. Well done.

This was poured into a mug thinking it was a regular porter.
Hmmm....well, okay, alright well, just re-posted into a snifter, just cause I’m anal like that. Okay, now I feel better.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Light stringy lacing glosses along nicely down the glass.
The smell takes in a stellar amount of robust roasty coffee smooth lingering cocoa bean.
The taste enlivens a robust and roasty sweet cocoa bean. Dry roasty coffee aftertaste runs into a dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation hits fairly nice, nothing obscure.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good Imperial porter. I’d have again.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a black color with a small foamy beige head that left decent lacing. The aroma was fairly dryish and roasty with notes of wood and vague hops. The flavor was malty and toasty with a cocoa note then turned dryish with floral hops and growing bitterness. Long roasty and dry finish with bitterness that keeps growing. Moderately full bodied. Meh.
