A spruce-infused pale ale, Pennsylvania Tuxedo pays homage to the flannel-suited hunters and gatherers who dwell deep in the backcountry of north-central PA.
Brewed in collaboration with family-run outdoor clothing company Woolrich, Pennsylvania Tuxedo is a sessionable concoction with a grassy citrus kick complemented by the resinous conifer notes of fresh green spruce tips. We went into the forests of north-central Pennsylvania and Georgetown, Del., to pick these fresh tips ourselves.
A dry yet doughy malt backbone lets the hops and spruce shine while still balancing out the bitterness, making this one an easy sipper.

Pours clear amber, bit of white foam, some lacings. Aroma has some resins, well, a lot of resins - and that is a spruce resin. Oh yeah. Some sweet honey hiding underneath. Taste is full on spruce, give me a Christmas tree and I put it into my beer. And then I take that liquid, smelling so much or resins that I can clean my wounds with it. Ridiculous. I am enjoying this turpentine, not sure if I want a full pint but a small sample is great to try.

Medium dark amber golden color. The nose smells like you got hit over the head with spruce. Super malty and nothing subtle and just overwhelming spruce. The spruce just dominates so much. It’s so over the top it’s hard to know what to make of it. Not bad.

Pour is a amber red with a huge white head. Aroma is a definate pine with some caramel malt. Flavor is a heavy but not sweet malt with some floral bittering agents that I’m guessing are the spruce tips. This is ok for a sample I did not get anything to wow me to really recommend this. Definitely not a imperial IPA, this is more traditional ale with the ingredients used.

Bottle from West Side. Pours a goldish amber with a finger of foam that lingers. Very strong floral nose with spruce tips, resin and lavendar. Waxy mouthfeel but with crisp carbonation. Orange blossom, pine resin on the palate. Sweet with some light bitterness and honey. --- Beer merged from original tick of Pennsylvania Tuxedo on 16 Dec 2016 at 10:48 - Score: 6. Thanks altonbrownd for the bottle! Poured into a taster showing moderately filtered caramel brown and very sparse white foam. The nose shows sweet caramel malts mixed well with notes of steel tank and spruce. The palate is medium bodied and moderately carbonated. Flavors of forward caramel malt and notes of spruce with a moderate alcoholic spiciness and same intense hoppy bitterness. Finish is more of the sweet malts.
