Bauman's Cider's Salal Berry is a collaboration between Bauman's and JAZ Spirits - an Oregon based craft distiller that specializes in making fine gin, vodka, and liquers. This cider is made using the Salal berries used to make JAZ's Salal Liquer. The berries were steeped in cider for two months, then blended with juice to add a slight sweetness.

This cider has a beautiful light pink color from the salal berries and is boasting with so many different aromatic components. Tasting notes of cherry popsicle, juniper, blackberries, cardamom, honey, blue elderberry.

Salal berries are an edible berry from the Salal plant - a shrub that is native to the Pacific Northwest. The fruit has historically served as an edible and medicinal resource of coastal Native Americans.

Clear 750 via Press Online($22 before discount). Descriptions on the internet of this new to me berry: "kinda good" "okay" "multiple harvests" "emergency food source". Press had more positive words.

NV - No Vintage, though their own website has a 6.9%abv edition.

Clear mojito glass at home. Pours a peachy rosé, shy soda head.
Floral & very spiced nose, gum & subtle cranberry laced with apple cinnamon juice box.
Taste is sharp apples, lingering sugar for a semi-sweet feel & rounded botanicals. Old world herbs & serviceberry for that dark earthy sweet plus almond combo. Tastes like there's a boozy component. Finish is slick. I think its sweetness is distracting. Apple is definitively sharp, mildly tart & adds some skin astringency to keep up.

Fun to try new things.
