The brown ale to end all brown ales. Enjoy it, because there is no longer any reason to drink another. You’ve reached the pinnacle. A healthy blend of traditional British malts give this popular style a semi-sweet, biscuity, slightly roasted flavor. Oats thicken the mouthfeel, and a handful of specialty malts add complex chocolate, toffee, and caramel notes. The hops are mostly traditional, earthy British hops, but we cocked it up a bit with some Cascade late in the boil just to show those snooty Brits that we don’t approve of that Constitutional Monarchy crap.

475ml can at Agenturet Øl og Vinbar. Deep dark brown body with a reddish shade. Clingy lacing from a remaining, low off-white head. Inviting aroma of brown malts, slightly roasted. Well blended taste profile of caramel, nuts, chocolate and bread. Rounded, mid-sweet malty ending. Medium bodied. Cleverly made version of the style and a fine partner to my beef stew at the bar (TIFF, Tromsø 18.01.2017).

Tall boy can from Brewcraft at home. Translucent deep mahogany brown pour. Thin dense white head. Aroma is hoppier than usual for a brown ale but still nutty toffee malt. Taste is bitter hops up front then rich toffee malt with heavy biscuit nuttiness that stays balanced throughout by the hoppy bitterness. Very good brown ale just not my favorite style.

Nitro tap at Gambrinus. Pours a deep brown to black with 2 fingers of creamy tan foam that last throughout. Yoo-hoo, ovaltine, milk chocolate, pudding, coffee on the nose. Smooth, rich and creamy mouthfeel. Balanced finish: sweet and roasty. Wow. Very complex brown, but that label is foul. --- Beer merged from original tick of The Brown Note on 25 Nov 2016 at 00:05 - Score: 7. This brew is a dark brown color with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily to a film. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and slight hops. Light-bodied with flavors of malt, butterscotch and mild hops. The finish is sweet with a roasty malt aftertaste. Decent overall.
