Damm’s first Märzenbier was created in 1953. In the early years, it was only brewed between October and April and wasn’t made for the rest of the year. In 1955, as it had become a great success, it was decided to brew the Märzenbier all year round. It was given the name Voll-Damm. “Voll” in German means full, complete. The name suited a strong, intense and full-bodied beer. During cooking we add Nugget, Magnum and Taurus variety hops, which are responsible for the characteristic bitterness of Voll-Damm.

Medium dark amber beer with finger foamy head. Flavour is sweet and alcohol comes through quite nicely. it’s okay beer if you are looking for stronger beer.

Can. No idea of colour and head since I had it straight from the can a sunny Barcelona day. Somewhat malty aroma. Mild flavour.

Bottle. Pours amber, small head, little lacing. Aroma dominated by roasted malt. Taste also roasted malt dominated, but with a bitter finish.

33cl Green can, brought back from Majorca by my daughter and her husband, one of three different beers from this brewery. Best before May 2011 it was drank and reviewed mid Nov 2010. Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru stemmed glass tulip. Looked good, copper body of clear beer, on top a large foaming head of a light tan/creamy colour. Some good lacing as the beer sank. Malt sweetness in the nose, molasses/treacle/toffee, nice. I tend to go for maltier beers more than the hoppier ones, but this was over the top malty even for me. It was a harsh tasting malt with a really dry and metallic aftertaste. I don’t think it was hop bitterness, but I suppose it could have been, anyway I didn’t like it. The alcohol was also ’in your face’ from start to finish, not a pleasant drink in my eyes what so ever. Strange beer, and not one I’d try again in a hurry. Looks and smells really good, pity about the rest.

Bottle from an Xmas present from my team. Clear mid brown gold colour with thick rocky cream head. Is it just me or does this beer taste of fish oil? Some ok malt on the aroma. but it definitely becomes fishy after that. Some hop sting on finish. Not exactly horrible but not what I was expecting. Fish.

Its a damm can. Deep amber, fine carbonation, collasing amber head. Sweet honeyish malt, good on the palate, a bit neutral in aroma. Actually a quite decent grassy hop counterpoint, wellbalanced. Quick finish, but pleasant enough. a shame the beer had to get t His strong to get a bit of flavor.

330 ml can, bought in Spain. ABV is 7.2%. Golden colour, large white head. Decent floral aroma, hints of malts and some fruit. Low carbonation in the mouth. The flavour is sweet, malty and alcoholic, hints of honey, some bitterness in the finish. Too sweet for me, really, but not undrinkable. I drank it at cellar temperature, possibly slightly better if colder.

330 ml bottle. Fine golden body with a big off-white head. Aroma is malty with some caramel and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malty, some moderate bitterness and a bit too much alcohol. Could have been quite pleasant with less alcohol flavor.
