31/5/2024. From cask at the 37th Colchester Real Ale and Cider Festival. Pours clear dark ruby brown with a small frothy off-white/grey head. Aroma is coffee, treacle, ash, dried fruit, caramel. Medium sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness and body. Slightly oily, average to soft carbonation. Drying finish. Solid quite traditional mild.

Bottle from Bottles & Books. Hazy ruby body with a thick beige head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of raisin, red grapes and wood. Flavour of earth, coffee and steel. Thin body with a slick texture. Weak fizz. A bit too sharp.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol. Dark brown in colour, with a thin, off-white, head. An easy drinking mild, with brown sugar notes, some berry fruits, hint of toast and a gentle finish. Good.
