Back again with another delectable Christmas treat – this time in the form of a rich, velvety milk stout. Inspired by a certain much-loved seasonal confection, this brew is brimming with layers of chocolate and roasted hazelnut. Five carefully selected malted grains provide a smooth, full-bodied base, making it the perfect beer to warm the cockles as the colder nights draw in.

On tap at Crewe Dg, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small scummy tan head and good lacing. There’s cream, chocolate and malts in the aroma. In the mouth it is decidedly sweet but with a little underlying sharpness. Flavour has roasted malts, milk chocolate, with hints of nuts and honeycomb coming later. Finish is a little fruity. This is decent enough, but even with all the flavours listed above, still seemed a little bland to me.

Nutcracker composer Tchaikovsky never had any children. Almost black with a creamy off-white head. Plentiful chocolate, well stated in taste, evident in aroma too. It's on the rich side. I was told they were going for a Ferrero Rochet taste in this one, and the beer ambassador that served me this one was certainly spoiling me.
