Cloudy amber, with a stable, ivory head. Aroma is sugary, orange malt. Taste is a very mild orange-peel.... creamy, soft. Minimal bittering. Very easy and pleasant.

Nice rich and hazy copper coloured body with an amber and almost ruby tint with a nice two centimetre tall tan head - this is what an APA should look like! Aroma of rich deep citrus, resinous and piney hops with a strong malt backbone and even hints of caramel sweetness and alcohol - very nice indeed. Medium-bodied; Nice hoppy flavour at first with a good pungent citrus and slightly piney note with a smooth and almost light malt backbone - very nice and perfect for the style. Aftertaste shows complexity and well-rounded qualities with the hops and malt balanced by some light sweetness and a hint of airy fruity flavours. Overall, a very nice and almost perfect APA that rivals Tuppers for the best in the style, but if I could have this everyday, it would be nice, but it’s even better that I can get Hop Pocket Ale everyday! I sampled this twelve ounce stubby bottle purchased from Three Cellars in Franklin, Wisconsin on 05-September-2012 for US$1.89 sampled at home in Washington on 27-November-2012.

Bottle. Pours a clear gold color with a small white head. Aroma is straight up piney hops. Taste is straight up piney hops. Well maybe (just) a bit more. Some grapefruit possibly. A dry bitter pale ale that seems much closer to an IPA. Light bodied, sharp, and well carbonated.

A lightly hazed golden ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, nice floral hops with catnip notes, biscuit malts, very nice. In mouth, a nice smooth biscuit malt with nice citrusy hops, nice and smooth, clover notes, very nice. On tap at the Istmus Beer and Cheese, Jan 21 2012.

Bottle. Cloudy, deep golden body. Frothy white head, slowly diminishing. Hop aroma of citrus, sweet orange juice, grapefruit, caramel, toasted grain. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Flavor leaves more raw hop taste than aroma would suggest. And it’s not as sweet as expected. Similar in many ways to Alpha King, but not as bold in body or flavor.

12 ounce bottle from Steve’s Mineral Point Madison, WI. Pours a hazy amber color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Big floral hops in the aroma with some faint malts. The taste is fresh grapefruit notes, some other citrus hop notes and pale malts. Medium bodied. Quite refreshing.

Purchased at Breeze Thru Liquors in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed on the day I quit my job. Man I need this!!! Appearance cloudy golden/amber with rich white, frothy head. Aroma of pure citrus/floral hops with notes of grapefruit and other fruit characteristics. Taste is pretty well balanced with an obvious tilt on the hop end, a touch of sweetness from the citrus notes with dried apricot, definitely bitter and smooth at the same time, caramel malts come out in the back end. Carbonation is good, definitely a hoppier APA. Enjoyable!

12 oz bottle, $1.50 in mix-a-six at Woodman’s. Date code: 010311. Don’t let a hoppy beer like this sit around. Pop open: light color like a golden ale, but a nice froth of foam in IPA texture. Smacky hop aroma: orange Dreamsicle, a bit of pine. Amazingly, this is not a hop bomb. Just a fine beer with a pronounced hop balance. Tastes as it smells, with additional apricot and fir needles. An idea of juniper, too. Very easy drinking, too.
