We offer for you a very special version of our "Red Sky at Night." This beer is brewed with authentic Belgian candi sugar. It's then finished in Chardonnay barrels to give the beer a complex dry finish. Old world (wine) meets new world (beer). The best of both worlds! Explore with reckless abandon.

Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to tulip.
Appearance: semi-cloud red/mahogany color with a one and a half fingers of white foamy head which dissipated nicely to leave some light lace
Aroma: light caramel/toffee malts, Belgian sugar-y notes, some vinous (maybe red wine-ish tones, I'm not exactly sure), light grassy hops
Flavor: sour/funky/tart-ish vibes combining the prior tones; finishes somewhat vinous and grassy
Texture: medium bodied, I have no idea if this is something to session and pound it or if this was meant to be a sipper; not exactly smooth at all, too much wine barrel in the way
Overall: since I'm not a wine drinker and never will be, I'm not exactly sure if I gave this beer it's true respect. Maybe someone else will come along and review this beer better.
However as a Coast Guard vet, I know how the saying goes "Red sky at night, sailors' delight, red sky in the morning, sailors take warning!" And maybe that's Heavy Seas' warning to tell us there's a ton of things going on with this beer.

Can definitely tell it's been aged in Chardonnay barrels.

22 oz. bottle shared by T.J. Color is a cloudy golden haze. Aroma is spicy yeast, floral notes, and bold spice.
Taste is yeast notes and pale grains right upfront. Mild wine character through out. Mild bready and maltiness. Body is medium with a moderate, creamy carbonation. Dry texture with a wine essence. This is decent.

750 from TJ. pinkish red appearance. Smells delicious. a little tart, wine, wheat, cherry and sweet syrup. This is very sweet. Boozy and really dense in mouthfeel and flavor but it is a 10% beer. This is sweet, candied sugar, persimmon, mango, pineapple. boozy and no barrel really.

Poured from bottle 1517 hazy orange with a thin bubbly white head. Aromas of dried fruit faint citrus and white wine and oak. Taste is grape skin oak fruit and citrus. All elements blend well and the Abv is well hidden. --- Beer merged from original tick of Red Sky at Morning on 21 Jan 2017 at 19:31 - Score: 7

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/20/2015. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, orange, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, white wine, light banana, peppercorn, clove, oak, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, light vanilla, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and moderate bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, white wine, light banana, peppercorn, clove, oak, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, light vanilla, and yeast earthiness. Light-medium peppery yeast and oak spice on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, pear, apple, white grape, apricot, white wine, light banana, peppercorn, clove, oak, cracker, biscuit, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light dryness from yeast/oak spice as well. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, fairly creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warmth lingering after the finish. Overall the is a very nice wine barrel aged imperial saison. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bomber bottle from wine warehouse. Pours murky golden amber with no head. Taste is a tangy bubblegum wheat grass with hints of bigger alcohol. 10%? I believe it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
