Produced in the tradition of 18th Century English brewers who supplied the court of Russia’s Catherine the Great, Old Rasputin seems to develop a cult following wherever it goes. It’s a rich, intense brew with big complex flavors and a warming finish.

Bottle. Bottle. Beautiful ebony color, dense, beautiful brown head, the label also commands respect. Caramel malt, chocolate base with a delicate intense dried fruit aroma. The first and the rest of the sips are a concentrated experience. Serious body, bitterness, Earthy, coffee, chocolate malt base. The 9% is really barely noticeable. It sticks to the edges of your mouth. A real Russian imperial stout, a great track competitor. Many thanks to Norbi for purchasing it! I couldn't find a fault with it!!!

First time I had this was late 1998 at the brewery. Now I found a "vintage" bottle in the sales bin at Sterk. Pours like motor oil, black, with a steady light brown head, good retention. Aroma's of hard roasted malts, umami, some red fruit, hops. Retronasal there's good roast, bitterness, ground coffee, some red fruit. Flavour is rather bitter, roasted, with just a hint of sweet. Medium bodied. Good carbonation. Long finish with a ton of roast and good bitterness. A classic impy.

Bottle picked up from Biervana, Munich and consumed at home, Thursday 18th March 2021 taking part in Beer School with Natalya Watson. We had a rather ordinary Creamy Maccheroni with Pork and Peas for tea. Pours black, oily, sticky, black treacle, bitter, roasty, real lingering roasty bitterness, this is great, no adjuncts but bitter coffee does make you think that this is added, bitter cocoa. Lovely beer.
