a bavarian-style dunkel lagerbier brewed with heritage rye
Created in collaboration with our favorite Todd over at Good Word Brewing of Duluth, Georgia. Mashed with 100% local grain courtesy of our longtime friends at Riverbend Malt house of Asheville, North Carolina. Primarily crafted with munich malts, this backbone was rounded out with a complimentary addition of specialty caramel and roasted malts. Delicately hopped with super choice noble hops for a rounded bitterness that folds beautifully into the toast and caramel characteristics. Fermented cool with our preferred lager yeast strain and aged extra cold until maximum crispiness and crushability is achieved.
Everyone knows Todd. No, not our Todd. The other Todd. Down in Georgia. Anyone who’s anyone has visited Todd in Duluth and knows how awesome Good Word is. Their food program is exceptional and their attention to detail brewing old world styles is something we admire deeply. Which is why we are honored to release this malty crusher with them. Don’t sleep on the toast, y’all, this is the beer you’ll need this fall.

Single via Appalachian. Canned 11/05/25, so barely a month old. Pint glass during Friday Night Chats.
Brown ale, not much head.
Marshmallow & itchy rye nose, pretty good.
Thin, caramelized, rice sweetness, a little cola, very weak clove. Some acidity, faint lemon, medium char.
Very low carb, sticky but almost no residual body, a twinge of booziness.
Okay-ish.
