An experiment in tropical precision in the Dutch Bargain laboratory has yielded a stout rooted in the warm scents of the Pacific. Makahiki Lono, named after the Hawaiian harvest festival, combines roasted malts with vanilla from Hawaii and Madagascar. One brings sunny sweetness, the other deep, creamy layers that slowly unfold in the glass. Dark, robust, and captivatingly aromatic, like a tropical ritual in liquid form.

Can, Day 5 of my Mr Hop beer advent calendar from their webshop, Venray, Netherlands, I'm clearly a few days behind with this one. Consumed this Friday 12th December 2025, cooking Thomasina Miers Picadillo (Mexican Chile) however this is for other meals, we we're actually having Dishoom Masala Prawns and another curry of Masala Chicken with Pulau Rice and Poppadoms and Raita, however after the poppadoms, pickle tray, raita etc we were full 🤣. 🎧 to Afrodeutscha on 6Music. Pours pitch black with a light tan head that soon departs into the inky depths. Light coffee, vanilla and roasted malts dominate the aroma. These three also come through in the mouth, which is creamy and thick, however their presence here is a little more subtle. It's a touch sweet and a little bit boozy at times, but it's certainly not in yer' face and is pretty decent. Score 7.1
