Is it a Cold Black IPA? Is it a Hoppy Schwarz? A Cascadian Dark Lager? A Dry-Hopped Baltic Porter? Call the Style Police! It’s at least a crossover of many worlds. As drinkable and refreshing as a pilsner, hoppy like an IPA, and dark like a porter. Our Wilco, and James from Lough Gill have struck the perfect balance between those worlds with this fantastic beer. A style we’ve decided, for convenience, to call an India Black Lager.

440ml can. Jet black colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, slowly osteoporosing, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty and slightly chocolately, dark malty and citrusy fruity, minimally grassy, hoppy aroma, notes of coffee, cocoa, some dark chocolate, notes of orange, lemon, a touch of scallions. Taste is mildly roasty and slightly chocolately, dark malty, mildly bitter, slightly grassy and minimally citrusy fruity hoppy, hints of coffee, cocoa, a touch of dark chocolate, mocha, white coffee, some orange peel, a minimally tart-ish and grassy touch, even sour milk, subtle residual sweetness.
Creamy-watery texture, smooth and soft palate, medium, dense, prickly carbonation.
BIPA nose, rather malty, mild, white coffee-like, barely fruity concerning taste - decent.

(Draft at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 28 Feb 2026) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, dark bread, coffee and roasted grain. Malty, roasted taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, dark bread, roasted grain and a balanced citric/floral bitterness. Medium body, dry. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.
