On tap at The Church by The Lost Abbey, pours a muddy dark brown/near-black, no head. Aroma has plenty of barrel character, a bit of rough husky malts, caramel, and dark dried fruits. Flavour is dominated by the bourbon barrels—really punching you in the face with that semi-smoky Buffalo Trace—along with brown sugar, caramel, and bready malt. Fairly restrained sweetness for the style. Not the most refined barleywine but there’s much to appreciate.
