a: dark brown body | thinnish, oily light brown head
a: molasses | roasted grain | star anise
f: rich chocolate | pitted fruits | soy sauce at end
t: rustic malts | a touch nutty | prunes & raisins
o: rich fruits throughout | bitter grain | enjoyable and strong...still (this would have been probably too deep, fresh!)

Bottle - slick mouthfeel - deep roast and spicy rye, with some smoke, leading to a slightly abrasive finish - otherwise, though, it has some nice deep chocolate, vanilla, light spiciness - alcohol is well-masked - pretty good.

Tap at taproom. Opaque colour, small steady beige head. Toasted aroma has cocoa and perhaps some rye bread. Medium-bodied. Sweetish toasted flavour, rye is there giving some breadyness and harshness. Ok rye showcase, not the common imperial stout but "speciality grain".

750 ml bottle. Bottled Feb 16 2015. Dark brown in color with a thin, lasting brown head and some medium-heavy lacing. Dark malt aroma, some spice, burnt coffee, and a bit of booze. Eye comes through more in the flavor than the aroma, otherwise it's pretty much the same. Full bodied with long duration. Pretty nice.
