Alesmith brewed this Barrel Aged Wee Heavy in honor of their 30th anniversary.
The California crew blended barrels aged in both port and bourbon casks. Expect vinous dark fruit, whiskey caramel, soft vanilla, and a whisper of smoke drifting into a silky finish.

Pint can pours with a near clear deep mahogany colored body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up plums and dates moving toward a bit of chocolate and malts as well as sherry like boozy spirits. Nice. The taste is smooth and slick where the sweet dark fruity esters are integrated nicely into the sherry port and supple smooth bourbon notes. Another sip reveals a thin layer of chocolate and a faint sense of caramel. Well integrated and balanced between world class beer notes and the barrel treatment.

16oz can from Tavour. Near black pour, silky beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty and boozy, grapes at the very back. Taste is malty, brown sugar, strong, bourbon, warm with some grape-y wine notes at the back. Very tasty and comforting. Smooth sipper.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear dark brown with a transient tan head. Aroma of caramel, bourbon, red grapes and vanilla. Arguably full bodied. Port wine is surprisingly in the taste lead, but bourbon, caramel and oak astringency come quickly after. Heat must be sought to be found. It's deadly drinkable. Excellent.
