(Draught at Ölbaren, Copenhagen, 26 March 2008) Pitch black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, vinous, burnt nose with black-currant, blueberries, liquorice and a hint of young scotch whisky. Malty, heavily roasted, vinous taste with blueberries, black-currant, liquorice and coffee. Powerful and fiery with lots of alcohol shining through. I wouldn’t really call this smooth and balanced, but still it’s a really nice beer. And a couple of years in the cellars might definitely round off the edges a bit.

From tap at Ølbaren. Pours black, dense tan/brown head. Chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, yeast and light chalk note in the aroma. Initial flavour holds coffee, chocolate, smooth liqourice, light dried fruity note. Ends bitter from hops and the roasted malt. Lingering chocolate. Warming alcohol in the far finish. Powerful, lacks smoothness and balance to be in the very top - but I guess 15 - 20 years of aging will add that.

Draft. A pitch black beer with a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of chocolate, caramel, and berries. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of roasted malt as well as notes of over ripe fruit, alcohol, berries, and chocolate as well as a light touch of licorice, leading to a dry and roasted finish. The alcohol tickles the palate. Nice. Congratulations with the baby and the beer!
