Imperial stout inspired by Mexican hot chocolate

This is a beloved stout. When first introduced as a limited special collaboration release with San Diego homebrewer Chris Banker (after his recipe won our annual homebrew competition) and Cerveceria Insurgente, it was an instant hit and fans began clamoring for its return. Seeing as how its amazing flavor profile is evocative of Mexican hot chocolate, featuring coffee, pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and a generous amount of chocolate, we concluded it was the perfect stout to re-release in celebration of the Holidays and the entire winter season. This is now a highly anticipated yearly tradition that we are pleased to present from us to you, and makes a perfect wintry gift from you to your friends, loved ones, or simply to yourself. Cheers!
When we first brewed this beer in 2014, everyone on the brewing team was blown away by its multiple layers of flavor. The inspiration came from Mexican hot chocolate combined with coffee. We loved how wonderfully this beer showcases the spices, cocoa and subtle coffee roast flavors, so much that Stone is excited to bring it back as an annual special release.

Bottle at Antenna America. Interesting! Aroma has spice, pepper, Chili, chocolate, milk. Chai latte! Taste is weirder, spicy, vegetables, bitter chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla creaminess. Extra marks for strangeness.

330ml can. Berlin version. Pours black with a thin beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon. Taste is roasted malt, cinnamon, cocoa, light chilli spiciness. Good stuff.

Can. Black. Coffee and caramel in the soft spicy aroma. Medium bodied. Malty sweet. Caramel, roast, coffee and cardemom in the flavor. Decent.

2015 bottle. Pours black, with a medium, frothy, tan head. The aroma is caramel, light cinnamon and smoke, milk chocolate, and chipotle chilies. Sweet and syrupy, without any of the heat that the aroma promises. Heavy body, with a thick, chewy palate. This is a decadent and delicious stout, but the age has killed the chili flavors.

Pours pitch black with a thick creme head. Aroma of cinnamon and chocolate. Taste has sweet and milky elements that fade quickly to a dry dark roast coffee element. Palate has dark malt along with vanilla, chocolate and coffee notes. Great beer.

Blik 33cl thuis. Gebrouwen in Berlijn. Zacht, romig, zoeten, duidelijk chocolade, mokka, vanille, lactose, hoptonen, roasted malts, kokos, kaneel, speculaaskruiden, pepertje. Kruidige en de pepers blijven hangen. (27-4-2019).
