Long Trail Ale® is a full-bodied amber ale brewed with our top fermenting house yeast that yields a clean, complex flavor.

Our flagship brew has weaved its way into the Vermont landscape and become as much a Green Mountain tradition as the 273 miles of the Long Trail itself. Plenty has changed since the first batch rolled off the line, but one thing remains constant, Long Trail Ale’s® presence at ski hills, cookouts and get-togethers all over the East Coast.

Part of their mixed pack on my trip to Maine. Pours a clean dark amber colour with a light beige head, good retention and lots of dirty lacing. Grainy dark cereal grain with hints of grassy hops. The taste has the same darker grain malts but with the hops being a little bolder, creating decent bitterness and dryness. A decent Altbier all around that is made for a session.

A crystal clear amber with a thin beige head. Crisp clean green herbal aroma with a sold maltiness in a supporting role. The taste is bready dark toffee malts with a crisp bitter finish. Nicely done.

Big thanks to Lillian from work who brought us back beer from her weekend away. Thought I fated this before but guess not. Pours bright clear copper. Nose of hops and caramel. Tastes of buttered toast, caramel, some hop bitterness, and dried fruits. Slight oily palate with semi sweet finish.

The appearance had a light amber color with an off-white head that didn’t last too long. It left just a bit of spotty lacing. The smell had the aromas of caramel, almonds and hops. This smooth, easy drinking ale is good in all seasons. It had a good clean, crisp, and dry finish and with a slight touch of bitterness. Overall, good for its style and good for me.

Bottle from a random cornershop, NYC. Nice head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are nuts, caramel, malt, fruits and hops. Quite dry and malty finish. Pleasant bitterness as well.

Pours amber with some tracing. A little creamy and low carbonation. Smells sharply of wheat and tastes a little bitter. Not horrible, but bad. On tap at the Salt Hill Pub in Newport, NH.

Pours a crystal clear deep copper color with a decent sized fluffy white head that displays moderate retention and lace. Smells of sweet bready malt, toffee, hints of apricot and tangerine and a light herbal earthy hop aroma. Taste is sweet malts up front immediately followed by an earthy hop bite. Sweet toffee and a hint of butter contrasted with apricot, spice, pepper and a light fruitiness. Medium body with a dry finish, moderate to high level of carbonation with a sweet almost syrupy bubbly mouthfeel. This used to be the beer I drank when I went skiing 15 years ago, but I haven’t had it in years. Sometimes when you try to go back it only serves to disappoint. Decent enough drinker, but really nothing special.

Bottle from the Strawberry Street Vineyard, Richmond. Amber with a slight white head. Sweetish, berry fruit and earthy malt aroma. Sweet, slightly peppery malt flavour with some citrus fruit and dryish finish. Fine.
