This medium bodied copper colored strong lager is in a class all by itself. First released in celebration of our 20th Anniversary. Ed Stoudt calls this beer an "American-style Doppelbock" He believes it to be the first high gravity lager brewed with German Malts and American Hops. This brew has a delicate malty palate up front, which is abruptly overshadowed by the dominating ho presence that can be attributed to 1.5lbs/bbl of hops that were added to this brew for aroma & flavor. A hop lover's beer indeed.

Pours clear copper color with off white head. Caramel and floral hop aromas. Sweet caramel flavor with a slightly hoppy finish. Medium body with average carbonation. An interesting take on a doppelbock.

Golden-amber. A toasty nose with caramel malt, hints of herbs...but a bit better than that sounds. Citrusy, bright hops with toasty malts. Fairly firm body. Clean. Interesting.

This one was highly recommended by a friend, hence this single from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. 12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear strawberry red with a large off-white head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is citrus hops with a caramel maltiness. Taste is hoppy with fruity citrus hops... pineapple and peach. Also a fairly assertive caramel presence and the faintest toastiness. Medium bodied. Good beer but hardly a doppelbock.

Pours a pale orange-brown color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of citrus, hops and toasted malt. Medium, clean body with flavors of citrusy hops and sweet caramel malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Overall this "Americanized" Doppelbock is fairly good.

Pours deep amber into an english pint. Off-white head with excellent retention recedes leaving spot sheets. Nice balance of full malts and crisp hops. Lasting grapefruit finish.

GABF 2007. A pale brown beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma is sweet malty with grassy notes of hops. The flavor is sweet grassy hoppy combined with a light caramel malt character. Nothing special.

12oz Bottle pours out a nice amber topped with a off white almost tan head. A Great aroma of HOPS. Talk about hops all over this one. Very good. I would think this was a IPA????

Bottle. Pour is an amber orange with a one-finger beige head. Aromas are crisp and piney hops with some caramel bread maltiness. Flavor is like sucking down a tea made from pine needles and grapefruit rinds with little malt to make things chewy or balanced. It’s not a total pucker, but it could stand a little more beef, at least in my opinion.
