From 2012 through 2016, Blue Bee Cider produced its ciders in a turn-of-the-20th-century coffee warehouse along the James River in Richmond’s Old Manchester district. The first records of the Aragon Coffee building are dated 1904, a time when coffee was often traded for tobacco down the river to the Atlantic Ocean and beyond. Blue Bee Cider makes ARAGON 1904 from a blend of modern and heirloom apple varieties to create a light, crisp, off-dry cider.

On tap at Blue Bee, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out lightly sweet apples, with light apple core. Flavour is only modestly sweet, with dry apple skins and light apple core. The ABV isn't felt. Okay.

500ml bottle. Poured a clear yellow color, fizzy head that disappears moments after pouring. Aroma was crisp apples, light tart, mild white wine notes. Fiance commented that it was very similar to wine. Crisp and a touch dry. There’s alcohol here, but it’s masked pretty well.

375ml bottle from Total Wine McLean. Pours a crystal clear, champagne gold with a ring of white head and plenty of apparent carbonation. Nose was like a nice champagne, white grape, apple skins, apple juice, mild honey. Flavor follows, very grapey, apples, tart apple skins. Spritzy finish. Wife loved it.

Lot 23 750 mL bottle from the cidery. Pours a pale golden color with a fizzy whit head that, naturally, quickly fades. Lots of visible carbonation. Dry cider apple aroma, mild tannins, a bit of vanilla and earth and a light tartness. The taste is dry and tart apples, earth, tannins, apple skins, lingering tartness. Highly carbonated, medium bodied, well balanced. An exceptional cider.
