Sour Golden Ale aged in wine casks and refermented on Ohio University Student Farm raspberries, Barrel Ridge Farm blackberries and Homecoming Farm blueberries.

Wavelength was born by aging Perpetum in two fresh red wine barrels and refermenting on a mix of great local berries. Most of the Brewpub barrels have been in the basement for many years, and are refilled as long as they continue to produce good beer. Typically, over the years the oak character of these barrels fades and becomes more round, while the house character amplifies. In this case, Wavelength is a great example of a fresh fill. You get brighter and punchier oak character coupled with some carryover vinous tones that bring a different dimension to our fruit refermentation. On the Brewpub scale of working with two wine barrels per brand we have the opportunity to use tons of small lot local fruit that we are lucky enough to procure from the Athens Farmer’s Market, hand pick, or acquire from our local partners.

Sample at the production facility as part of Ohio Brew Week on 07/18/2025. The beer is a slightly hazy copper-gold color with a thin bright white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Vinous and oaky aroma with berry and yeast notes. Medium body with flavors of vinous oak, tart blueberry, yeast and doughy malt. The finish is oaky with a sweet-tart blueberry aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
