Sour Brown Ale Aged in Oak Foeders With Raspberries

There are different tellings of the Legend of the Wild One®, much like the beer that bears its name. Brewed with wild yeast, this sour brown ale is aged in wooden wine foeders for up to eight months, and then aged again with raspberries, giving it an additional layer of tart and fragrant flavors.

A secondary fermentation with raspberries adds distinctive raspberry aroma and flavor and another, subtle layer of tartness.

On tap at the Eccentric Cafe. Deep red body, dissipating thick to thin tight pink head. Nice Bretty funky nose -- raspberry vinaigrette and pleasantly musty, wet socks. Tart, somewhat puckering body with raspberry tannins, wet socks, and molded, dried hay. The fruit complements the rather dry, sour body, and there is nothing sugary or syrupy about this beer to dilute the tart punch. Dry finish. I certainly liked this better than my dated samples of Wild One, and I would love to see one of these sour beers end up in bottles sometime. Nice work.
