Sour Brown Ale Aged in Oak Foeders With Raspberries

There are different tellings of the Legend of the Wild One®, much like the beer that bears its name. Brewed with wild yeast, this sour brown ale is aged in wooden wine foeders for up to eight months, and then aged again with raspberries, giving it an additional layer of tart and fragrant flavors.

A secondary fermentation with raspberries adds distinctive raspberry aroma and flavor and another, subtle layer of tartness.

Tap at FWIBF. Pours with a clear red hued body with a small white head. Aromas are tart and funky with a lot of raspberry. Slightly intense funky phenolics with notes of manure. Flavors are tart, funky, lots of fruit and a decent acidity. Much cleaner funk than on the nose. Lively, tart, and puckering finish.

6oz halfie tulip pour at pre GTMW 2012. Ruby red-brown, glass rimming head. There is a big, pronounced raspberry flavor, but not overly impressive at the price point. Some nice incorporated tartness. Tangy lasting finish. Pretty nice..grows on you.

On tap at Firestone Fest Nice raspberry aroma with light funk and acidity. Clear red color with small thin white head. No lacing or legs. Flavor is similar to aroma with nice tart raspberry flavor, balanced acidity and light funk. Mouthfeel is medium light with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a very nice beer with good fruit without being too fruity. Good funk to match raspberry notes.

Sample at the brewpub. This brew pours a clear dark reddish color with a minimal white head that evaporates to an outer ring quickly. Spotty lacing on the glass. Tart raspberries and funky yeast in the nose. Medium body with a slightly sour raspberry character and notes of brett, wheat and malt. The finish is funky with a tart raspberry aftertaste. Pretty good all around.
