The appearance had a dark hazy soft muddy brown color. one finger white foamy head that dissipates within about thirty seconds, lacing becomes soft and tries to cling but spider webs for the most part.
The smell had rich peat with dark caramel malty tones escaping through the aroma. The rye malt that was added is smelled as well.
The taste was sweet and combined all the way through the rye malts and the peat which does end up with a decent smokey quality to it. There is some meatiness in there as well; there is an aftertaste and its mainly a peaty cararmel one of sorts. The finish is fairly watery.
On the palate, it sat at/about a light to medium, not as heavy as I had hoped for from a Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy. This ones shows a decent sessionable quality to it, carbonation is smoother than most Scotch Ales I’ve had.
Overall, this is not bad at all, but in my final assessment, I can’t say great as it seems the finish is a bit too watery for me, still worthy of coming back to and as I’ve recently learned that Scotch Ales can go fairly good with Easter Ham. There’s a part of me that wishes I would have had this along side Easter dinner, hmmm....well there’s always leftovers. I did like that rye element that was added to the aroma.
