At Capital Brew fest.
This was poured into a mini snifter.
The appearance was a nice looking hazy amber to brown color with a thin line of stringy lacing sliding into the beer.
The smell had a nice blend of sweet spruce and then a light cocoa allowing a nice citrusy fruits to spicy blend of sweet dark fruits to an all encompassing luxurious effect - hot damn this was spectacularly nice!
The taste was there - sweet with a light spice and then a little light citrus fruit and then a light dark fruit.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was somewhat sharp but allowed a super nice sweet sticky effect rolling over my tongue in a really nice way.
Overall, wow, so I’ve had Baranof’s Spruce Tip and I’ve had Skagway’s and living in Juneau - yes I’ve had Alaskan’s Winter Ale (yup, closest thing to a Spruce Ale), ha, this one takes the cake! Out of any Alaskan brewery - my hat goes off to Haines for perfecting the \"Spruce Tip\" ale style. Way to go - Haines!
