This was poured into a thistle.
The appearance was a ruddy burnt dark orange to brown color. Two fingers of white foamy head starts atop and dissipates at a nice pace. Lingering sliding lace.
The aroma starts with some roasty to sweet toffee and caramel malts. Balanced nuttiness, with some herbal to earthy qualities. Sweet peat, subtle smoke, and then a boozy punch of dried malts hits like scotch.
The flavor moves from sweet to smokey to and fro, doesn’t seem to stick together that well. It’s there, but just doesn’t want to blend. Smoke seems like it’s more ash-like now. Aftertaste leans to malts. Quick sweet to herbal finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a really crushable sort of sweet herbal smoothness over my tongue. Extremely low carbonation.
Overall, this one has a spectacular aroma almost Scottish ale-like (use of peat flavor) with a nice punch of the booze. Not bad, but wishing the flavor would blend better.
