Poured into a pint glass, the appearance was a rugged dark brown color with a thin bar pour’s kind of slim white head that dissipated immediately. No lacing.
The aroma had some sharp bitey crisp sweet wheat tones over some dried chocolate malt. Spices seem to be just there and not exactly blending with the beer.
The flavor leans sweet and doesn’t seem to want to allow the chocolate malt to blend with the clove which even that seems to want to show that it wants to blend. No banana esters in the aftertaste, but the wheat shows some bite to it.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a light sessionability about it. Carbonation seems fairly low.
Overall, if this is a dunkelweizen, well, then I’m Mickey Mouse. It has the qualities, but all aspects are just loose all around. None of it blends, so, I can’t give my blessing upon this beer. I know it’s a hard style to try and put together for an American brewer, so, try again, Blackrocks.
