Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a muddy brown color with a thin white foamy head that had sprinkled some messy lace here and there.
The aroma had some sweet heather/herbal/grassy/earthiness to it. Leafy toastiness comes out as it warms. Just a touch of caramel and toffee malts.
The flavor leads with the heather/herbal qualities, somewhat sweet and floral. Grassiness and earthiness sits back a bit more. Leafiness helps with the balance of the caramel and toffee. Sly floral/herbal aftertaste but extremely faint. Floral/herbal finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a good sessionability about it. Low carbonation. ABV seemed like what the brewer intended but way lower than the style.
Overall, decent in flavor and aroma, but the feel seemed a bit different. Let’s just say crushable. An odd Scottish ale to say the least.
