Poured into a thistle, the appearance was a semi-dark ruddy burnt amber color close to muddy brown with a finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some smoke and peat up front with some leather and then caramel and toffee malts. Some nuttiness underneath and then some woodiness and earth. Light amount of hay.
The flavor moved nicely between the peat/smoke to the sweet sensation of the caramel and toffee malts. Crisp nuttiness comes back to apply gently into the combination of the malts to lead into the aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Low carbonation felt fine. ABV felt right.
Overall, nicely done scotch ale that I would have again.
